Did You Know?

Nintendo hasn't only been part of the video game and card industries...
Just add water!
When Hiroshi Yamauchi became president of Nintendo in 1949, the company's playing cards were selling in record numbers. Yamauchi was however still not satisfied and decided that his company needed to expand quicker. To achieve that, the new president set out to try and break into different industries by offering new products and services.

Among these was a line of instant rice. All customers needed to do was add water to the portioned rice, and voila! Instantly-prepared rice.

That was a failure.

Next, Yamauchi opened a "love hotel" business. People could rent rooms by the hour and perform actions to which they are so inclined within the allowed timeframe.

That idea was just as well a failure.

At the same time, a taxi company named Daiya was started by Yamauchi. While it wasn't as much a failure as the other two attempts, the impatient president grew tired of the complaints thrown by the taxi-driver unions. This was the bitter end of Daiya.

With his next attempt, Yamauchi finally saw clearly. Nintendo was part of the entertainment industry and nothing else. Thus began the video game revolution...
