Did You Know?

Classic Metroid enemy Kraid was planned to be in Metroid Prime
Big Bad Kraid
Kraid, the huge, classic, reptilian foe who Samus has previously defeated in her bounty-hunting missions, was originally planned to be a boss in the Retro Studios GCN game Metroid Prime. Gene Kohler, an artist who left Retro when their first project was completed, is the man responsible for the in-game, three-dimensional modeling of the creature, which is seen to the left.

Gene Kohler recalls that he had finished modeling and skinning (a term used referring to the process of correctly attaching a 3D model to its corresponding 'skeleton') Kraid.

"The level that he was to be included in was well underway to being designed. There just was not enough developement time remaining to fully implement all aspects of the scenario that were needed to pull off a highly polished/fun gaming experience... It was [ultimately] decided that Kraid was not imperative enough to the Metroid Prime project to run the risk of pushing up the release date in order to fit him in," Kohler told mythicahq.com.

From what can be seen in the picture linked below, it appears that Kraid is placed inside the Phazon Mines, as evidenced by the radioactive, glowing mushrooms.

Will Metroid fans ever see Kraid in all his 3D glory?
